About the Speaker
Dr. Peterson grew up in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Dr. Peterson earned an M.Div. at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. at Duke University, where she studied systematic and historical theology. Her dissertation focused on the history of the interpretation of Psalm 8. During her graduate program at Duke she was married and widowed, and wrote a book about it (Sing Me to Heaven: The Story of a Marriage).
Dr. Peterson joined the faculty of Eastern University in 1998, and teaches introductory and upper-level courses in church history and theology. For eleven years she co-taught a class on Christian Marriage with her (second, and now deceased) husband and faculty colleague, Dwight Peterson, also known as “the other Dr. Peterson.” In the years this course was offered it served over seven hundred students, to all of whom both Dr. Petersons listened closely. These conversations became the basis of their co-authored book, Are You Waiting for “The One”? Cultivating Realistic, Positive Expectations for Christian Marriage.
