ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION:  This week, at 9:30 a.m., Anne Whitney continues to lead the study, God Is Closer Than You Think by John Ortberg.  Today’s topic is “Where Is God in My World?”  At 11:00 a.m., the tough question is “Why Do Innocent People Suffer?”  Next week, at 9:30 a.m., “Partnering with God”, and at 11:00 a.m. “Why Doesn’t God Do Something?”  Join us in the Parlor for stimulating conversation and growth in Christian community.

 JOYFUL NOISE CHOIR will begin rehearsals on Sunday September 23rd.  Rehearsals are held in the basement choir room from 10:30–11:00 a.m.  The group is open to singers in grades 6 through 12.

 YOU ARE INVITED NEXT SUNDAY!  There will be a casual cookout on the parking lot sidewalk immediately following the South Ridge service on Sunday, September 23rd.  We would love to have you join us for hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.  If you can come, or if you would like to contribute a side dish, please contact Laura Courts at laura1c1@verizon.net or 215-674-9735.

 THE DEADLINE  IS SEPTEMBER 21st  to sign up for group tickets to “Say Goodnight Gracie, The Love, Laughter and Life of George Burns” at ACT II Playhouse on Thursday night, October 18th.  This play by Rupert Holmes presents the wit, wisdom, and the unique comic timing of the legendary George Burns and is a happy journey into the past!  Sign up by calling the church office (215-646-3030) by Friday, September 21st ; cost will be $22.50 or $27 depending on the size of our group.  Let’s enjoy this delightful evening together!

 1ST PRES FALL BIKE RIDING OPPORTUNITIES:

·       Sunday September 30th at 1:30 p.m. the 1st Pres Bike Riders will be going from Spring Mill to the Art Museum on the Schuylkill Trail.

·       Saturday, October 17th – Meet at Church at 8:30 a.m. for a ride on the NJ side of the Delaware River from Stockton to Frenchtown.

 DON’T MISS THIS YEAR’S WOMEN’S RETREAT –  OCTOBER 19th – 21st.  ONE JOYFUL CHOIR – DON’T MISS THE FUN!  Great things are being planned for the One Joyful Choir Festival and Concert on November 17th, 2007 at Broad Street Ministry and Kimmel Center.  Over 500 Presbyterian singers are hard at work learning an exciting repertoire of music and getting ready for their rehearsals with Anton Armstrong of St. Olaf’s College in Minnesota.  19 Voices from the Sanctuary Choir of First Presbyterian, Ambler will be taking part.

 Tickets ($65, $40 and $25) are not cheap, but remember this program is in part to help raise funds for various mission projects of the Presbytery of Philadelphia.  Ticket sales for the concert at the Kimmel Center have been great.  Over 600 of the 2,000 seats are already sold!  Don’t wait too long and miss out!  See the Kimmel Center website (http://www.kimmelcenter.org) and search for November 17th or call the box office at 215-893-1999.  Other information at www.onejoyfulchoir.org.

LIBRARY BOOK REVIEWS – Some books that may help in your interpretation of Jesus’ parables are available in our church library.  Stop by and pick one up.

 

·       Parables at Work, John C. Purdy.  Translating Christ’s parables as they apply to your daily work.

·       Hearing the Parables of Jesus, Pheme Perkins.  “What is the parable saying and how do I respond?”

·       Interpreting the Parables, Archibald M. Hunter.  Giving the history of interpretation but more importantly, putting the parables in the context of contemporary living.

 ART IN THE LIBRARY – The exposition in the library celebrates the lives of deceased members Joyce and Harold Arrigoni through their photographic art.  Please visit the library for a sampling of their extensive works.

  MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES 

 Youth Ministry Opportunities -

Please contact Sarah Dickinson if you can help.

 People who would like to commit to praying daily for our youth ministry.

·       One leader who would be interested in working/assisting me specifically with our Student Action Leadership Team (SALT) which meets one or two Sunday afternoons a month.

·       A few (three maybe) male leaders who would be interested in working with either Middle School students or High School students for two hours at BASIC, two or three Sunday nights a month.

·       Someone who might be willing to help out consistently at our Senior High Bible Study: leading occasional sessions,   7:00-8:30 p.m. every Thursday.

 Children’s Ministry Opportunities –

       Crib & Crawler 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m., one Sunday/month.

·       Preschool, PreK/Kindergarten teachers – 9:30 a.m. service,
 2 Sundays/month.

·       Son Kids, ages 4 thru grade 2, 11:00 a.m.,
2 Sundays/month.

·       Workshop leaders, 4-5 week commitments at 9:30 a.m., throughout the year.

 SHAWL MINISTRY – Those who enjoy knitting and/or crocheting and who know the power of prayer, are invited to make shawls and lap blankets for whose who are sick and hurting. YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

  

BASIC STARTS AGAIN TODAY – Join us to make new friends, hang out with old ones, and learn a bit about how to live your faith in the midst of the craziness of school.  Middle School meets from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and Senior High meets from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

 MIDDLE SCHOOL DAY OUT – Saturday, September 22nd, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  We’ll be headed out for a fun morning and afternoon of ropes course activities (low ropes obstacle course type thing)!  Keep this day open on your calendars!

 SOUP KITCHEN SERVICE DAY – We’ll be assembling a meal on September 28th (Friday evening), then serving the meal in a Philadelphia Soup Kitchen on Saturday, September 29th,  from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Please contact Sarah to sign up.
